Di Giovanna: Pioneers by Nature
Organic Winemakers in Sicily since 1997, between Mountains and Sea.
Deep Roots, Clear Vision
In the heart of the Sicilian lands, between Sambuca di Sicilia and Contessa Entellina, the Di Giovanna family cultivates a legacy of authenticity. We are not simply a farm; we are custodians of a unique mountain ecosystem, where organic viticulture is not a trend, but a philosophy of life established in 1997.
Led today by brothers Gunther and Klaus, with the support of parents Barbara and Aurelio, our winery is the symbol of a Sicilian wine industry that looks to altitude, freshness, and absolute sustainability.
Mountain Vineyards: the Identity of Sicilian Terroir
Our estates—Miccina, Paradiso, San Giacomo, and Fiuminello—
span 56 hectares on clay and limestone slopes, reaching 830 meters above sea level. Here, the temperature range between day and night forges wines of rare elegance, vivacity, and minerality.
Paradiso and Miccina Estates: Limestone Elegance
Located near the Monte Genuardo nature reserve, these estates are the realm of our most iconic whites such as the Helios Grillo 830 meters and the Camurrìa Orange. The clay-limestone soil provides a complex structure and vibrant freshness.
- Average Altitude: 700m a.s.l.
- Varieties: Grillo, Chardonnay, Nero d'Avola, Syrah
- Exposure: South, South-West
San Giacomo and Fiuminello Estates: Volcanic Strength and Clay
The estates in Sambuca di Sicilia are characterized by older soils and marly limestone. This is where wines of great personality are born, such as the Vurria selection (Grillo, Nero d'Avola, and Nerello Mascalese), capable of expressing the minerality and power of the native varieties in their purest form.
Our Family Journey
A story of dedication, vision, and love for the land.
-
1980s: The Vision
Aurelio Di Giovanna and Barbara, as pioneers, sense the potential of altitude and sustainability, beginning to study the mountain terroir of Sambuca di Sicilia.
-
1997: Organic Certification
Di Giovanna becomes one of the first Sicilian wineries to obtain organic certification for all its vineyards, a year zero for natural viticulture on the island.
-
2003: The New Winery
Inauguration of the modern winery in Sambuca di Sicilia, designed for gravity-flow processing to respect the integrity of the high-altitude grapes.
-
Today: Klaus, Gunther, and Helios
The sons carry on the tradition with natural wines, experiments like the Rùfulìa Pet-Nat, and the iconic Helios line, confirming Di Giovanna among the leaders of Italian organic wine.
Beyond Organic: Natural and Living Wines
For us, organic is the starting point, not the destination. Our cellar philosophy is based on minimal intervention: spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, no fining, no invasive filtration, and extremely low use of sulfur dioxide.
Integral Sustainability
Respect for biodiversity, spontaneous cover cropping, and agricultural practices that regenerate the soil.
Indigenous Yeasts
Fermentation occurs thanks to the yeasts naturally present on the skins, ensuring the unique signature of the terroir.
Purity Without Filters
We avoid filtration and fining to preserve the essence and organoleptic vitality of our wines.
